COLORECTAL & GENERAL SURGERY FELLOW 2024-2025

Position Summary
This position covers the Colorectal Surgical Unit and other General Surgical Units at HPH, within Ramsay Healthcare Australia. The job will consist of two roles.
- Acting as a surgical assistant / fellow with three senior colorectal surgeons.
- Participation on the general surgery roster, admitting patients under your name.
On call requirements:
- One 24hr period per week (Monday PM to Friday AM)
- 1 in 4 weekends (Friday PM to Monday AM).
During this period, you will be responsible for the patients you admit but the senior consultant surgeons will be offering back-up for cases that you require their advice or expertise for.
You will also supervise other SET and Service Registrars, Resident Medical Officers and Interns under the direction of General Surgery Consultants.
Essential Criteria
- Eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia.
- Be registered with Medicare Australia as a specialist and have no impediments to gaining a provider number for providing specialist services as a general surgeon at HPH.
- Demonstrated clinical and procedural experience in Acute General Surgery and Colorectal Surgery.
- Demonstrated ability to provide medical education, teaching, supervision, training and support to resident medical officers and interns.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, their families and staff at all levels.
- Demonstrated organisational and time management skills and commitment to safe, timely patient centred care.
- Demonstrated participation in continuing medical education activities including regular performance reviews to maintain and upgrade knowledge & skills.
- Demonstrated ability to monitor and review their clinical effectiveness, note their limitations and put in place strategies to ensure safe patient care.

Desirable Criteria
- Previous academic/research experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education and research in Australian hospitals.
