What you’ll be doing in this role 
The Food Service Department of the Sydney Adventist Hospital is searching for the next superstar cook to join the team in a casual role. Some of the function of our Cooks include, but not limited to; food preparation, basic cooking, food presentation, meal plating, cold larder, texture modified food and allergen management.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Work closely with Dietitians, Cooks and Kitchen Assistants within the kitchen to provide quality and appetising meals to patients, community and hospital staff (through SanCafe) and Doctors
  • Food handling & preparation ensuring hygiene and WHS standards are adhered to
  • Provide outstanding customer service to our customers and community
  • Actively contributing to a culture of comradery and teamwork along to a culture of continuous quality improvement

Who we are looking for

  • Sound food preparation and cooking experience preferably in bulk fresh food production or a large food service environment e.g., a commercial kitchen, café, restaurant or other hospitality environment
  • Able to follow simple recipes and instructions under the guidance of a chef with an interest in preparing plant-based, vegetarian foods
  • Ability to work both independently in an unsupervised environment, and within a team setting
  • Be self-motivated to provide outstanding meals  that meet the requirements of our customers and patients
  • Well organised with the ability to prioritise workload to meet tight time schedules when required
  • Excellent awareness of food safety, hygiene and manual handing standards
  • Formal training in Commercial Cookery and experience with temperature monitoring systems are desirable
